It has taken a full week to regain some sense of normalcy and to fully start to process all that happened at #FAI2017. 3000 conference attendees from almost every part of the world, music everywhere you looked, and enough BBQ to last me for at least another year.
FAI presented great opportunities on all fronts – opening the doors for new business networks, meeting new friends and seeing and hearing some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen. As part of the conference we also had the pleasure to hear from progressives Billy Bragg and Ani DiFranco. Ani reminded us that we need to vote in the best interest of our community and our country, not just for ourselves….Well said.
I am ever grateful for the support and community of the Canadian representation – especially Folk Music Canada , Folk Music Ontario and the East Coast Music Association. They have provided the foundation for my ongoing growth in the industry and I am truly thankful that we have them.
A special shout out to some of the artists I was able to see at this year: Heather Mae, Lloyd Spiegel, William Prince, O’Shea, All Our Exes Live in Texas, Dave Gunning, The Young Novelists, Ports , Liz Stringer , and Front Country . If you haven’t heard of them, check them out.
As for Kansas City – what a place. From the stunning view from my hotel room, to the history of Blues at B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ, one thing is for sure…I will be back.
